Autumn is one of Kaprun's most beautiful contrasts. Forests and mountain slopes turn gold, orange and red, the days invite you outdoors, and high above the valley the first signs of winter return to the Kitzsteinhorn.
From Chalet an der Piste you can experience both sides of the season. Spend a morning on the glacier, come back to the chalet for lunch, then choose between a walk, an e-bike or e-mountainbike ride, a round of golf or time in the warm water of TAUERN SPA. Autumn in Zell am See-Kaprun is not a season of waiting for winter. It is a holiday experience of its own.
Wake to a sunrise – or above a sea of morning mist
Some autumn mornings begin with a spectacular sunrise. On others, cool night air above the still relatively warm lakes and valleys can create low-lying mist. Chalet an der Piste sits on the mountainside above Kaprun and can find itself in sunshine while a white blanket fills the valley below.
As the sun warms the air, the mist begins to lift and dissolve. From the chalet you can watch the landscape slowly reappear – one of those quiet Alpine spectacles that a photograph only starts to explain.

Golf, swimming and wellness are close by
Look down into the valley and you can see how compact Zell am See-Kaprun really is. The golf courses and TAUERN SPA are within easy reach, giving an autumn stay much more variety than mountains alone.
That proximity matters when every day can be different: a clear morning on the mountain can be followed by golf, swimming or a relaxing spa afternoon.
Autumn below, winter returning to the Kitzsteinhorn
One of the defining sights of autumn in Kaprun is the contrast between the colourful valley and the increasingly white high mountains. From Chalet an der Piste you can watch that change unfold: green and gold around the chalet, with snow returning high towards the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier.
It is this meeting of seasons that makes October and late autumn so distinctive in Zell am See-Kaprun.

Ski in the morning while autumn colours the valley
The Kitzsteinhorn is one of the reasons an autumn holiday in Kaprun can be so unusual. When snow, weather and lift operations allow, glacier skiing can already begin in October. High above the valley you enter a white Alpine landscape while forests and meadows below can still be in full autumn colour.
For skiers and snowboarders, that creates a rare combination: make your first turns of the new season in the morning and spend the rest of the day enjoying autumn.

Back to Chalet an der Piste – and then choose your afternoon
After a morning high on the Kitzsteinhorn, return to Chalet an der Piste, have lunch and decide what the afternoon should bring. That freedom is one of autumn's luxuries: there is no need for every day – or even every half-day – to look the same.
Step into the autumn landscape
Cooler temperatures and changing colours make autumn ideal for walking and hiking. From easy valley walks to paths higher on the mountain, Zell am See-Kaprun offers countless ways to slow down and experience the season at your own pace.

While you enjoy autumn, the ski mountain gets ready
Autumn also gives you a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the coming winter. On the Maiskogel, close to Chalet an der Piste, preparations for the ski season are already under way. Snowmaking equipment helps create and maintain a piste base when temperatures and conditions are suitable, complementing natural snowfall.
It is a striking contrast: green grass can still surround parts of the mountain while the infrastructure is being prepared for skiing and snowboarding. In winter, the Maiskogel is the ski-in/ski-out mountain of Chalet an der Piste and is directly connected with the Kitzsteinhorn ski area.

Slow down and enjoy the colours
Not every autumn day needs to be active. Forests turn yellow, orange and red, mountain light becomes softer and familiar places around Kaprun take on a completely different character. It is a season for a long walk, a picnic, photography or simply stopping to enjoy the view.

An autumn round at Golfclub Zell am See-Kaprun
Golf adds another dimension to an active autumn holiday. Golfclub Zell am See-Kaprun offers two 18-hole courses, Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe, set in the broad valley between the mountains.
On a clear autumn day, golf combines fresh air, changing colours and views towards the surrounding Alpine peaks – and from Chalet an der Piste you already saw how close the courses are.
